What If

What if
for a given moment
you could crumble with a kiss
ice carved with goodbyes

What if you could
calm the shadows that refuse to part;
a memory that lingers
long
after you tasted her lips

What if we could bend the road we have taken
and save instead, traces of hope seeping in between dreams

What if,
despite one that has withered,
we water a whole bunch of roses
and watch them blom?

What if I could catch a string of light
and weave it onto your chest?

What if we let Silence whisper back
the yearning
it has long kept unsung?

What if I take your hand, this time?
What if a touch could salve the pain we've endured inside?

What if
you stare into these eyes
and find still, what you were looking for?

What if we let droplets of rain caress our skin,
instead of sheltering - concealing -
our trembling hearts?

What if we listen to them,
beating
gently, and faithfully,
to a rhythm we can never comprehend
and admit, for once, that it simply exists?

What if
this time
we stay?
